These days I had the opportunity to test the VerVita Elite cold press juicer by Kuvings (model EVO 820).
As is usually the case, first impressions are made through appearance. This juicer immediately received the adjectives: compact and beautiful.
Before I started using it, I had to take pictures and check what was in the box.
Along with the standard instruction booklet, there is also a Recipe Booklet. I really liked this booklet because it offers some ideas and combinations that I hadn't thought of before. You'll even find tips in the form of recipes for using the pulp that you have left after juicing. Quite useful. ![]()
The cleaning brush is sturdy and compact, ensuring good pulp cleaning from the sieve. This white cleaning brush also comes with a sieve cleaner (in green), which I initially thought was redundant, but when I tried it out, I found that it makes cleaning much easier. If sometimes (depending on the food being squeezed) there is even some pulp left behind, the white brush finally removes it successfully.
Among the other auxiliary parts, there is also a key for the cover (which I did not take a picture of because I had no need to use it). There is also a pusher, which helps when inserting a larger amount of food, so that the screw can 'catch' them more easily.
The picture below shows the pulp container and the juice container.
The basic parts of the juicer itself are:
1. BASE (solid and heavy)
2. DRUM (which is very easy to wash because pulp residues do not get stuck in it)
3. SIEVE (quality made). The sieve is inserted into a ring with silicone whisks (which is not in the photo).
4. SCREW (which is very compact, made of quality materials, and weighs as much as 593 g)
5. LID (which has an enlarged opening, for inserting larger pieces of fruit/vegetables)
ASSEMBLY:
The assembly is quite simple, once you put it together yourself, you won't need any instructions. It's just important to follow the red dots that determine where the two parts of the juicer should connect, and when you put the screw in, you have to make sure it fits well. Watch my video below, where I show you how to assemble the juicer while juicing cucumbers and apples.
USE:
Using this juicer is simple , with a few main instructions to follow:
- Always remove the stem from apples (you don't have to remove the seeds)
- Cut fruits and vegetables with long fibers, such as Swiss chard stems, celery, mangoes, etc., into smaller pieces, no longer than 5 cm. This will make juicing easier, but will also prevent the fibers from getting stuck in the screw or sieve.
- Foods that are softer can be inserted whole through the upper opening
- Keep the lid on the juicer closed while juicing (until the liquid is just below the top of the jar). This will help mix the juice nicely. See an example in my video on making almond milk.
- According to VerVita's instructions, when juicing carrots, do not cut them into rings, but cut them lengthwise and insert them into the juicer that way. Furthermore, when juicing beets, never cut them into quarters as they can damage the lid. Instead, cut the beets into large slices, about 5-7 mm thick. Add them one at a time, waiting for each one to be squeezed. Also, make sure you have separated the hard stones from the fruit, so that they do not damage the sieve (e.g. cherry, peach, nectarine, etc.).
- When juicing hard foods (like beets or carrots), always add some softer foods in between to make juicing less of a strain on the juicer.
- don't be hasty, like me sometimes when I'm in a hurry, and throw in large amounts of food at once. It is necessary to insert them slowly and a little at a time.
- If you are juicing green juices from foods high in fiber, it would be a good idea to stop and wash the drum, i.e. the sieve, after juicing approximately 500 g.
Here you will find a recipe for homemade almond milk , using a juicer instead of a blender:
After juicing the apples, I noticed that there was a minimal amount of pulp left in the juice, significantly less than some other cold-press juicers I've encountered.
If you are going to juice grapes, always add a small amount of berries, so as not to clog the sieve. ATTENTION: if you have not had any experience with grape juice before, I think it would be fair of me to warn you that it is a very powerful cleanser, i.e. it has a very beneficial effect on digestion. ![]()
I noticed in my work that it is very quiet . In addition, the power button is large enough and easily accessible, even though it is on the back. Forward (FWD) is for starting, and reverse (REV) and again forward is used for situations when the pulp is stuck on the screw and on top of the screw.
Even though I have a blender and a food processor on my kitchen counter, I still found room for this juicer. Despite its smaller dimensions, thanks to its high-quality and robust construction and weight of 7 kg, it is compact and sturdy.
This juicer meets another, very important requirement for me, and that is the materials it is made of. The screw and sieve are made of extremely strong and environmentally friendly ULTEM, which is also used in medicine. All plastic parts are made of high-quality, environmentally friendly Tritan material, which does not contain BPA .
MAINTENANCE AND CLEANING:
I mentioned earlier that the green screen cleaner makes cleaning a lot easier, but I would like to mention that this juicer is quite easy to wash and clean. The screen is washable under running water (with the screen cleaner and screen brush), as are the other parts, which don't even require brushes.
A very convenient thing is that the plug at the outlet of the juice container can be removed so you can wash it.
CAUTION: if you want to postpone washing the sieve until later, never pour water through the opening so that the sieve is submerged in water, because all the water will drain out through the pulp opening (not immediately, but after a few hours). You can do this by first disassembling the entire juicer and washing all parts (except the sieve) under running water, and leaving the sieve submerged in water in a bowl so that the pulp does not stick to the tiny holes in the sieve and become permanently stuck.
GUARANTEE:
With a 10-year warranty on the motor and 2 years on other parts , this juicer has another reason to stand out from many other juicers. The condition, of course, is that you carry out regular servicing every 24 months. This warranty applies to home use. For commercial use, the warranty is 3 years on the motor (with regular servicing every 24 months).
