Recipe by Zelenarium (Tina Uglješić)
My fascination with hot spices , especially wasabi, combined with sushi and peanuts has grown into an almost obsessive desire to prepare something completely new. That's how the idea for wasabi chips was born. Since I haven't published a recipe for kale chips yet, it was only logical that the recipe would be for kale chips with wasabi.
WHAT IS WASABI?
Wasabi is a Japanese horseradish from the same group as cabbage, broccoli and horseradish. Wasabi grows as a root that is dried and ground into a powder and is an expensive and medicinal herb. For recipes, I definitely recommend buying the powder , not the ready-made wasabi paste. In Japan, it is highly regarded as a medicinal herb for many ailments, and what is immediately noticeable is that it unclogs the sinuses effectively and quickly. Like our horseradish. ![]()
While studying the offer, I found that, unfortunately, real wasabi ( Wasabi Japonica ) is extremely expensive , so it is often replaced, even in Japan, with ordinary horseradish . Even my powder, which I did not pay cheaply and which said 'Wasabi', of organic origin, contained ordinary horseradish, turmeric and spirulina. Who knows, maybe this recipe of mine will inspire one of you to try growing real wasabi. ![]()
NOTE: If, by any chance, you get hold of real wasabi, I recommend that you measure the amount carefully, relative to this recipe.
